Mumbai CA Dies by Suicide After 18-Month Blackmail Over Private Video; ₹3 Crore Extorted, Two Named in Note
A promising 32-year-old chartered accountant from Mumbai tragically ended his life this week after allegedly being blackmailed and extorted for over a year and a half. The deceased, Raj Leela More, was a resident of Yashwant Nagar in Santacruz (East) and is believed to have taken poison to escape the pressure and mental anguish he had been enduring.
Raj’s suicide has unearthed a harrowing tale of coercion, blackmail, and psychological torment, with a three-page suicide note found at the scene shedding light on the events that led to this devastating outcome.
According to the Vakola Police, Raj had been blackmailed by two individuals—Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi—who allegedly used a private, explicit video to threaten him. Over a period of 18 months, they are said to have extorted over ₹3 crore from him by threatening to leak the video online.
The police stated that both accused were aware of Raj’s significant financial holdings and earnings, including his success in stock market investments and a well-paying job as a CA. Exploiting this knowledge, the duo reportedly forced Raj to transfer large sums of money—not just from his personal savings, but also from his company’s account—directly into theirs.
Additionally, Raj was allegedly coerced into handing over a luxury vehicle to the accused during this period of blackmail.
What the Suicide Note Reveals
The note, handwritten and spanning three pages, offers a gut-wrenching insight into Raj’s final thoughts. It is addressed in parts to his mother, a colleague, and to the authorities.
In his message to his mother, Raj expressed deep sorrow and guilt:
“Sorry mother, I couldn’t be the son you hoped for. I know I’ve let you down. May God never give you a son like me in your next life. Poonam aunty, please take care of her. I have policies in multiple accounts—please use them for her.”
On the second page, he turned to a professional colleague, Deepa Lakhani, offering an emotional apology for a breach of trust at work. He wrote that whatever financial wrongdoing had occurred was entirely his responsibility and clarified that two colleagues—Shwetha and Jaiprakash—were unaware of any misconduct.
“I broke your trust, Deepa, and I’m sorry. But no one else knew. Please don’t blame them,” he pleaded.
The final page directly named the two people he held responsible for his suffering and death.
“I, Raj More, am taking my own life. Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi are responsible. Rahul manipulated and blackmailed me for months, made me liquidate my savings, and forced money transfers from my company’s account. They took everything from me—even my peace,” he wrote.
Following the recovery of the note and preliminary investigation, the Vakola Police have registered a case against Rahul Parwani and Saba Qureshi under charges of extortion and abetment to suicide. While the case has been filed, no arrests have been made as of yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
Raj’s mother confirmed to authorities that he had been under immense mental distress in recent months but had not fully disclosed the nature of his ordeal.
