Mumbai Cop Dies, Female Constable Injured After Speeding Car Hits Them Near Worli Sea Link
A morning patrol turned fatal for two Mumbai Police constables on Tuesday when a speeding car rammed into them on the Coastal Road-Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) connector near the Worli Sea Link. The incident occurred at approximately 7:25 am, just as the two personnel—Head Constable Dattatray Kumbhar (52) and Constable Riddhi Patil—were nearing the end of their night shift. Both officers were attached to Worli Police Station and were on bandobast duty at the time of the incident, stationed at a crucial junction connecting the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and the Coastal Road.
According to police officials, the duo was hit by a Hyundai Grand i10, reportedly being driven at high speed. Kumbhar was directly struck and sustained critical injuries, while Patil also suffered serious impact. Emergency services quickly rushed both to Wockhardt Hospital, where Kumbhar was declared dead during treatment. Patil continues to undergo medical care, and doctors have stated that her condition is currently stable.
The vehicle’s driver, Ramchandra Rane (46), has been detained. Authorities have already filed an FIR against him and are conducting a thorough investigation. As part of the process, his blood samples have been collected to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Officials are also closely analyzing CCTV footage from the area to confirm the speed of the vehicle and understand the exact sequence of events. Investigators are probing whether Rane had been driving all night and may have fallen asleep at the wheel, which could explain the loss of control.
Senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Satyanarayan Choudhary, visited Wockhardt Hospital and met with the families of the two constables to offer their support.
