Mumbai: Days after the horrific rape of a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary bus at Pune’s Swargate bus station, Mumbai Police launched a large-scale crackdown on criminals as part of their monthly ‘Operation All Out.’ The initiative targeted history-sheeters, fugitives, and individuals accused of crimes against women, with police conducting extensive raids across the city.

According to a report by the Free Press Journal, the operation took place between 11 PM on February 28 and 2:30 PM on March 1, covering 207 locations, including 14 premises linked to gambling and other illegal activities. The crackdown led to significant arrests and legal actions.

Over 12 Fugitives Arrested, Action Against 54 Individuals

Authorities arrested 12 fugitives and took legal action against 54 individuals under Section 142 of the Mumbai Police Act for violating externment orders. Additionally, 16 people were apprehended for allegedly possessing illegal weapons. Police also filed 15 cases related to drug possession and took action against 56 individuals for engaging in suspicious activities.

Furthermore, officers served 46 non-bailable warrants and executed 25 standing warrants for the arrest of specific suspects. A total of 113 ‘nakabandi’ checkpoints were set up, leading to the examination of 6,901 two-wheelers and legal action against 1,891 violators. Additionally, 70 individuals were caught allegedly driving under the influence.

Security Tightened at Bus Depots

In light of the Pune bus station incident, Mumbai Police have intensified security at major transportation hubs. Bus depot managers from ST and BEST were asked to improve lighting, enhance security, and monitor suspicious individuals. Security measures have also been reinforced at the Shivaji Nagar depot in Govandi.

Pune Bus Rape Case: Latest Updates

Dattatray Gade, the 37-year-old accused in the Swargate bus station rape case, remains in police custody until March 12. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar confirmed that authorities used drone surveillance to locate and apprehend him while he was hiding in a sugarcane field.

“Efforts are being made for a thorough investigation to ensure justice. We are firm on ensuring that such incidents do not happen again,” ANI quoted Pawar as saying. He also warned against vandalizing public property in response to the case.

Police continue to investigate the incident, with strict measures being implemented to curb crime and enhance public safety across Mumbai and Pune.
