Mumbai/Pune: The Maharashtra government has announced that key infrastructure projects, including the missing link on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the 23.2 km Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro corridor, will be completed in the 2025-26 fiscal year. Additionally, work on the second phase of the Pune Metro will be initiated.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, presented the state budget for the 2024-25 financial year in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Monday. He stated that the missing link project in the ghat section from Khopoli to Khandala on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is expected to be completed by August 2025. This project aims to reduce travel time, save fuel, and alleviate traffic congestion.
Furthermore, the Centre has approved the second phase of the Pune Metro, which includes the extension of the Swargate-Katraj corridor. A proposal of ₹9,897 crore has been sent to the Centre for two additional Metro corridors:
- Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi
- Nal Stop-Warje-Manikbagh
Pawar also announced major road infrastructure projects in the Pune region. A 564 km elevated road from Pune to Shirur will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹7,515 crore. Additionally, a 25 km road from Talegaon to Chakan, including four elevated roads, will be built with a budget allocation of ₹6,499 crore.
In a cultural initiative, the government is expediting work on the Shivsrushti project at Ambegaon in Pune, which showcases the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through modern technology. While two phases have been completed, an additional ₹50 crore has been allocated to accelerate the remaining work.
Pawar also announced plans for the renovation of the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune.
