Mumbai, August 4, 2025: In a major relief for commuters between Mumbai and Pune, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced plans for a new expressway that will reduce travel time between the two cities to just one and a half hours.

Gadkari revealed that this upcoming expressway will directly connect to Pune’s ring road, bringing the two cities even closer. The project is expected to significantly improve travel speed in both directions — Mumbai to Pune and vice versa.

Speaking about the development, Gadkari shared details of the proposed highway during a recent address. He said that although the Atal Setu was built during the tenure of Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, the idea was first conceptualised during his own tenure.

The new expressway, which will pass through the Uran constituency, is part of the larger Mumbai–Bengaluru highway plan. Once completed, it will enable travelers to reach Pune from Mumbai in 1.5 hours and Bengaluru in just 5 hours.
