Mumbai will soon get its first elevated forest walkway at Malabar Hill. Built by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) at a cost of Rs 25 crore, the walkway aims to boost tourism and offer residents a unique walking experience. Inspired by Singapore’s forest walkways, the project is set to open around New Year.

The walkway spans 705 meters, extending from Kamala Nehru Park to the Doongerwadi woods. Entry and exit points are at Siri Road, behind Kamala Nehru Park. It offers breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea and Girgaon Chowpatty.

The deck is made of wood, with minimal concrete usage to preserve the natural flow of water on the hill slopes and allow wildlife movement. The walkway also features a birdwatching zone and a glass-bottom viewing deck, making it a unique attraction.

The project began in 2022 after the tender was awarded in 2021 for Rs 22 crore. Costs rose to Rs 25 crore due to taxes, including GST. Construction took over two years because Malabar Hill is a silent zone, allowing limited working hours. Currently, 90% of civil work is complete. Ancillary tasks like electrification, painting, and building restrooms and ticket counters are underway

This project will boost tourism and give Mumbaikars a new spot for morning and evening walks. It is wheelchair-friendly and no trees were cut for construction.

With its eco-friendly design and scenic views, the elevated walkway promises to become a favorite spot for city residents and tourists alike.
