Despite recent pre-monsoon showers and stormy winds, Mumbai and its suburbs continue to experience hot and humid weather conditions.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad, warning of hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets on May 19.

On Sunday, the city and suburbs experienced mainly clear skies. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist for the next 48 hours, with maximum temperatures hovering around 35°C and minimum temperatures around 27°C.

Explaining the transition to hot and humid conditions despite recent rains, an IMD official stated that the high humidity levels following rainfall, combined with clear skies allowing for strong solar heating, have led to the rise in temperatures.

Meanwhile, other parts of Maharashtra, including Jalgaon District, are also experiencing significant weather events, with temperatures soaring to 43.0°C. Additionally, sixteen districts in Maharashtra, including Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha, are under yellow alerts for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds until May 22.

In recent days, Mumbai faced unexpected disruptions, with unseasonal rains wreaking havoc on public transportation systems. Instances such as the collapse of a billboard onto an overhead wire, halting metro services and causing fatalities in Ghatkopar, underscore the severity of the weather challenges.

Despite the recent rainfall in some areas, the hot and humid conditions are expected to persist, underscoring the importance of staying hydrated and taking necessary precautions against the heat.
