Pune: A man accused of murdering a Karnataka police officer and evading arrest for 11 years was finally caught in the Fursungi area of Hadapsar, Pune. The accused had escaped from a government hospital in Vijayapura (Bijapur), where he was sent for medical treatment from prison. Following his escape, he managed to get married twice, as revealed during the investigation.

The arrested individual has been identified as Amrish Kashinath Koli (45), a resident of Kalburgi, Karnataka, who was currently residing in Ganganagar, Fursungi. Koli had been married three times—his two wives live in Solapur, while his first wife resides in Kalaburagi. He was initially arrested for murdering a police officer in Karnataka.

While serving his sentence in prison, he was transferred to Vijayapura Government Hospital for treatment. However, he managed to flee from the hospital and was later declared an absconder by the court. During his time on the run, he got married twice and was living in Ganganagar, Fursungi. Pune police received a tip-off that Koli had been absconding for 11 years in connection with the murder of a Karnataka police officer. However, there were no recent photographs or specific details available about him. The Fursungi police later obtained information from Kalaburagi police in Karnataka, confirming that Koli had murdered a police officer in 2009. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime.

While serving his sentence, he feigned illness and was admitted to Vijayapura Government Hospital. On August 14, 2014, he escaped from the hospital, leading to a case being registered against him at the Gandhi Chowk police station in Vijayapura. Following his escape, four police personnel who were assigned to guard him at the hospital were suspended. Over the last 11 years, Koli had been living under different names in Solapur and Pune.

Fursungi police officers Sunil Kamble and Vaibhav Bhosale received intelligence that Koli was residing in the area under the fake names of Rahul Kamble and Raju Kale. The police coordinated with Karnataka authorities to obtain more information and photographs of Koli. On Wednesday, officers Bhima Nayak and Shashikumar Hugar from Kalaburagi police arrived in Pune, where a joint operation was carried out to nab the accused.

Koli’s first marriage took place in Kalaburagi, followed by two more marriages in Solapur. His two wives in Solapur live separately. Investigations also revealed that he had acquired fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. He was earning a living by working as a rickshaw driver and daily wage laborer.

The arrest was made under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and Assistant Commissioner Anuradha Udamale. The operation was successfully executed by Senior Inspector Mangal Modhve from Fursungi police station, along with Crime Branch Inspector Rajesh Khande, constable Mahesh Ubale, and officers Sunil Kamble and Vaibhav Bhosale.
