Mysterious ATM Glitch In Nagpur: Free Money Frenzy On Ganesh Chaturthi
In a bizarre incident, an Axis Bank ATM in Khaparkheda, Nagpur, malfunctioned on Ganesh Chaturthi, dispensing extra cash to withdrawing customers. The technical glitch sparked a frenzy, with people rushing to the ATM to withdraw money.
On September 5, customers discovered that every withdrawal yielded an additional ₹600. For instance, withdrawing ₹500 would yield ₹1,100, while withdrawing ₹1,000 would result in ₹1,600. News of the glitch spread quickly, attracting a large crowd.
Arun Mahajan, a local citizen, noticed the anomaly and promptly informed the police and bank officials. “I immediately informed the police and the bank as soon as I came to know about the extra money coming from the ATM. This prevented the bank from incurring losses,” Mahajan said.
The bank swiftly responded, shutting down the ATM in the afternoon for technical repairs. Services were restored by 7 pm. According to estimates, people received over ₹3 lakh in excess due to the glitch.
The incident has sparked curiosity and discussion among Nagpur residents, with many taking advantage of the error. The bank has initiated an investigation to recover the lost amount.
The prompt action by Mahajan and the bank officials averted a potentially significant financial loss. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilant citizens and swift response to technical errors.
The investigation is ongoing, and the bank is working to recover the excess amount dispensed during the glitch.
