Nanded: Tehsildar Prashant Thorat, who was serving in Umri tehsil of Nanded district, has been suspended after a video of him singing while seated on a chair during his farewell ceremony went viral on social media. The action was taken by Aurangabad Divisional Commissioner Jitendra Papalkar following a report submitted by the Nanded District Collector.

Thorat was transferred to Renapur in Latur district last month and was relieved of his duties in Umri on July 30. On August 8, the Umri tehsil office organized a farewell function for him, during which he sang a song while seated. The video of the incident drew sharp criticism from citizens and political workers, who termed the act inappropriate for a government officer.

The District Collector’s report stated that Thorat’s gestures and mannerisms during the performance were deemed unbecoming of a government servant and reflected irresponsible conduct. Acting under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979, Section 4(1), Commissioner Papalkar issued the suspension order.

Thorat, who had already taken charge at Renapur after being relieved from Umri, has now been instructed to remain at Dharashiv as his headquarters during the suspension period. He has also been directed not to leave the headquarters without prior permission from the local District Collector.
