Navi Mumbai International Airport Set to Begin Operations: Domestic Flights in March 2025, International by April 2025

Navi Mumbai Airport Nears Launch as AAI Releases Key Aerodrome Data
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to begin operations by April 2025. Domestic flights are expected to commence by March 2025, followed by international flights by the end of April 2025. The airport will provide multiple connectivity options, including railways, underground metro, Atal Setu, and expressways. A unique plan promises that travelers can reach NMIA from any part of Mumbai within just 17 minutes.
Currently, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is Mumbai’s only airport and faces heavy traffic pressure. NMIA is expected to significantly reduce this burden. Once operational, NMIA will become India’s second-largest airport, boasting a 3.7 km runway capable of accommodating 350 aircraft simultaneously. The airport is projected to handle over 90 million passengers annually once fully operational.
To ensure faster connectivity, various transportation projects are being developed. In addition, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has proposed a water taxi service. This innovative solution will enable passengers to reach NMIA from any part of Mumbai in just 17 minutes.
The water taxi plan aims to reduce traffic congestion in Mumbai and Thane while improving connectivity to NMIA. As part of the project, jetties have been constructed near Nerul, Belapur, and Uran. These jetties will facilitate fast and efficient transportation to the airport.
With its advanced infrastructure and focus on seamless connectivity, NMIA is poised to transform air travel in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
