The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released a new Class 8 textbook titled “Exploring Society, India and Beyond”, developed in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and guided by the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

The textbook is designed to provide students with an integrated and multidisciplinary understanding of India’s geography, history (both medieval and modern), economic life, and governance. As Class 8 marks the culmination of the middle stage in school education, the book encourages learners to explore how historical events from the 13th to mid-19th century shaped the India we know today.

NCERT has emphasized presenting facts in a concise and comprehensible way to prevent cognitive overload and foster critical thinking. All content is drawn from credible primary and secondary academic sources. To ensure learners approach history without bias or misconceptions, a special section titled *“A Note on History’s Darker Period”* has been included on page 20 to offer a balanced perspective.
