In an effort to tackle the persistent traffic congestion in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has proposed several infrastructure projects, many of which are being expedited, according to officials.

A major project includes the construction of a four-lane, 720-meter flyover at Laxmi Chowk to address frequent traffic jams. The project, estimated to cost ₹40 crore, is in the final stages of the tendering process, with work expected to commence soon.

Additionally, MIDC plans to widen the 900-meter stretch of road from Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk to Smshanabhoomi in Hinjewadi to six lanes at a cost of ₹24.74 crore. A new 5-kilometer road connecting phase one to phase three of the IT Park is also planned, with a budget of ₹584.14 crore. While the land for these projects is with the Public Works Department (PWD), additional land acquisition is required to proceed with the work.

Another significant development is the six-lane road connecting Baner directly to the IT Park. Out of the 5.75-kilometer stretch, 2.5 kilometers have been completed, and work on the remaining 3.25 kilometers will begin once the Pune Metro Region Development Authority (PMRDA) approves the Town Planning Scheme (TP Scheme).

To enhance security within the IT Park, 300 CCTV cameras are being installed, with 280 already operational.

Last month, Industries Minister Uday Samant, after reassuming his position, held a meeting with the Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA) to discuss 17 pressing issues, including traffic congestion, solid waste management, electricity shortages, and high accommodation costs in the area.

These initiatives aim to improve connectivity and infrastructure in Hinjewadi, ensuring smoother commutes for the IT hub’s workforce.
