New Railway Line Approved in This Maharashtra District – ₹568 Crore Tender Sanctioned; Check Route Details
Project worth ₹568 crore approved; civil work to begin soon in Khandesh region
Maharashtra is set to get a new broad gauge railway line, bringing relief and improved connectivity to thousands of passengers. A historic metre gauge railway line in the Khandesh region will soon be transformed into a modern broad gauge track. The project will begin in the coming days, with an approved tender value of ₹568.86 crore.
The Pachora-Jamner railway line in Jalgaon district, currently a 53 km-long metre gauge line built during British rule will now undergo full-scale conversion to broad gauge. This development is being hailed as a major boost for the state’s transportation network, especially in north Maharashtra. The decision to upgrade the track comes after consistent demands and lobbying by local residents and elected representatives, who have long sought better rail services in the region.
Contract Awarded to Ashoka Buildcon
The civil works for the project, including bridges, underpasses, overpasses, roads, and rail yards—will be executed by Ashoka Buildcon Limited, which won the contract by submitting the lowest bid of ₹568.86 crore. The project is set to be completed within 30 months.
Officials have confirmed that the first phase will cover all civil engineering tasks. The second phase will include track laying, electrification, and installation of signaling systems.
Strategic Importance for Jalgaon District
The Pachora-Jamner broad gauge line is expected to significantly benefit the agriculture, industry, tourism, and education sectors in Jalgaon district. Among these, the agriculture sector is projected to gain the most, as improved connectivity will facilitate easier transportation of produce and goods, helping local farmers reach broader markets efficiently.
With this project, Maharashtra continues to align with the central government’s broader mission of enhancing rail and road connectivity across India. The Indian Railways already holds the title of the fourth-largest railway network in the world, and the second-largest in Asia after China.
The new Pachora-Jamner line reaffirms this legacy, blending historical roots with modern infrastructure, and promising growth for the future.
