Starting August 1, two-wheeler riders without helmets will be denied fuel at petrol stations across Indore district. The directive, issued to enforce stricter road safety compliance, follows instructions from the Supreme Court’s Road Safety Committee, chaired by former judge Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre.

The order, announced by Indore District Magistrate Ashish Singh, aims to reduce traffic rule violations and encourage safer driving habits. Justice Sapre also emphasized the need for passengers in cars to wear seat belts as part of the broader safety push.

Petrol pumps found providing fuel to helmetless riders will face legal consequences under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code 2023. Offending fuel stations could face penalties of up to one year of imprisonment, a ₹5,000 fine, or both.

The move comes in response to the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s recent concerns over widespread traffic violations in Indore. Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Sharma revealed that out of 32 lakh registered vehicles in the district, nearly 21 lakh are currently in use, with two-wheelers making up a significant portion.
