Pune, September 2025: Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has announced that the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ rule will soon be strictly enforced across the state in a bid to reduce vehicular pollution and promote a cleaner environment.

Speaking at a transport department review meeting on Wednesday, Sarnaik emphasized the importance of environmental responsibility, stating, “The present generation must take steps to ensure a pollution-free future.”

According to officials, under this initiative, vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will not be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps. Petrol stations across Maharashtra will adopt digital systems, including CCTV surveillance and number plate scanning, to verify a vehicle’s PUC status in real time. If a PUC certificate is invalid, fuel will be denied, and the certificate will be immediately cancelled.

To ensure authenticity, every PUC certificate will be issued with a Unique Identity (UID), preventing fraud and duplicate entries. Additionally, facilities for issuing PUC certificates will be available at petrol pumps, vehicle showrooms, and garages, making compliance easier for motorists.

Sarnaik also directed the Transport Department, including Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar and Joint Secretary Rajendra Holkar, to take strict action against fake PUC certificate rackets and ensure the rule’s effective implementation across all fuel stations.

“This is not just about compliance—it is a step towards a healthier, greener Maharashtra,” Sarnaik said.

Officials added that the move comes at a time when vehicle prices have dropped due to GST rate cuts, boosting auto sales. The state government’s pollution control push is expected to help balance economic growth with environmental protection.
