Now Tatkal Tickets Can Be Booked in a Jiffy! IRCTC to Handle 1 Lakh+ Bookings Per Minute
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announces ₹182 crore upgrade to reservation system, promises faster, smoother, and more passenger-friendly booking experience.
Passengers struggling with slow Tatkal bookings can finally breathe easy. Indian Railways is revamping its Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at a cost of ₹182 crore, enabling the system to book over 1 lakh tickets per minute — more than four times its current capacity of 25,000. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made the announcement in the Lok Sabha, calling it a complete overhaul rather than a mere upgrade.
The new PRS will feature a modern, multilingual, and user-friendly interface with added options such as preferred seat selection and a fare calendar. Special provisions will also be integrated for Divyangjan, students, and patients. For Tatkal bookings, passengers will now need to verify their identity using Aadhaar or another government-issued ID linked to their DigiLocker account.
With this, crores of daily railway users are set to benefit from faster and more transparent ticketing, cutting down the chaos and stress of securing last-minute Tatkal seats.
