For the past more than one year, residents of Ganga Florentina, Ganga Kingston, Raheja Vista Premiere and nearby societies are in deep trouble due to the nuisance caused by the youths who are often seen roaming around, driving speedily, smoking cigarettes, hooting and shouting. This gets worse mostly after it gets dark, as the number of youngsters increases. Residents have been calling local Police seeking their support but they expressed that the action must be stern and shops which are encouraging them should be shut.

Even after the recent stamping of QR codes in various places, the nuisance is adding up.

Namrita T, a local resident said, “It is impossible for women and children from various societies to cross the stretch. There are youths of different age groups who sit here and ugly fights happen. We have complained so many times to the Police, but the matter is resolved only when they arrive. These youths are back to the spot the next hour. We want immediate action against them which will last forever.”

Nitin Bokey from Anandvan Parisar Residents Forum said, “We have been complaining about this nuisance caused to the societies in our area. Police patrolling is seen only for a few days. It should happen regularly and cops must take stern action against such miscreants who are causing nuisance in a residential area. We don’t feel safe anymore. We have immense faith in the Police force who have always come to our rescue, but the effect of the action must last longer.“

When the issue was raised with the Kondhwa Senior Police Inspector Sardar Patil said, “We have been patrolling in the area continuously for the past few days. We have also installed QR codes on gates of various societies. We will definitely continue our patrolling.”

A shop owner from Ganga Kingston said, “I have been living in the area for the past four years. This is a daily scene in this stretch. Police must take strict action and provide relief to the residents. The police patrolling should happen at regular intervals in the area so that the miscreants do not venture in this area.”

Rohit Mahajan, a resident of Raheja Vista Premiere said, “There has been some respite in our area after the Police has installed QR codes. But the number of youngsters doing photography in the area has increased. The menace will increase when the restaurants in the vicinity are open and operational. Police should conduct patrolling in the area.”

Malini G, a resident of Raheja Vista Premiere said, “The problem is that when these youngsters come to the area Police are nowhere to be seen. The response time to the complaint is also very low. Also, these youngsters often chase people who confront them which is very risky. The patrol is seen in the area but the youngsters are more powerful and have no fear of the Police.”

The residents of the area also complained that Pune Municipal Corporation should install high mast lamps at such locations so that youngsters don’t sit around. Also, CCTV surveillance system should be installed by the Police or PMC jointly which will keep a close eye on them. High mast lamps must be installed between Ganga Florentina and Pristine Viva, Raheja Vista Premiere, Raheja Vista Phase 2, Vibgyor school so that miscreants do not take advantage of the darkness.
