A SpiceJet staff member’s arrest for slapping a CISF officer at Jaipur Airport has ignited a legal dispute, with the airline alleging sexual harassment.

A dramatic incident unfolded at Jaipur Airport early Thursday morning, resulting in the arrest of a SpiceJet employee who slapped a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel during an argument over security screening. The altercation, which has gone viral on social media, highlights tensions between airline staff and security personnel.

Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet, was stopped by assistant sub-inspector Giriraj Prasad around 4 AM for attempting to use the “vehicle gate” without valid permission. When directed to undergo screening at a different entrance, an argument ensued. Rani slapped the security officer, according to police and CISF officials. She has been charged under sections of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and is currently under investigation.

In a surprising turn, SpiceJet has come forward to defend their employee, alleging that she was subjected to sexual harassment by the CISF officer. A spokesperson for the airline stated that Rani had a valid airport entry pass and accused the CISF personnel of using inappropriate language, including making an unwelcome advance.

“Today, an unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel. While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home,” the SpiceJet spokesperson said.

SpiceJet announced that they are taking immediate legal action against the CISF personnel for sexual harassment and have approached local police to support their employee. “We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support,” the airline added.

In contrast, a senior CISF official provided a different account. Explaining that Rani was asked to undergo mandatory screening at a nearby entrance for airline crew but became agitated when no female CISF personnel were available. This agitation, according to the CISF, led to her slapping the on-duty officer.

“A case has been registered against her and she has been arrested,” the CISF official stated.

The incident has raised questions about the procedures and interactions between airport security and airline staff, and it underscores the need for clear communication and protocols to prevent such confrontations in the future.
