Khushboo Patani, elder sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani and a former Lieutenant in the Indian Army, has openly criticised spiritual figure Aniruddhacharya Maharaj over his recent remarks on women in live-in relationships. In a widely circulated video from one of his sermons, the spiritual leader commented on how men today are choosing 25-year-old women “who have slept with at least four to five men.” The comment sparked outrage online for its explicit language and gender-biased undertone.
Khushboo Patani, who hails from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, and holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, took to social media to voice her strong opposition. In a strongly worded video, she condemned the guru’s statements and questioned the cultural mindset that targets women for their personal choices while letting men off the hook.
She called out the double standards in Aniruddhacharya’s sermon, pointing out that there was no mention of the men involved in live-in relationships. According to her, it is this selective moral judgment that fuels regressive attitudes in society. She went as far as to use harsh language to describe both the guru and his followers, accusing them of promoting anti-national and patriarchal ideologies.
Khushboo’s video drew attention not just for its boldness but also for the larger conversation it has reignited around gender, relationships, and the accountability of public figures. Many viewers supported her stance, stating that it was time spiritual and cultural voices were held accountable for spreading discriminatory narratives.
While Aniruddhacharya’s remarks have drawn widespread criticism, no official statement has been issued from his side regarding the backlash.
