Only 'these Jobs ' Will Matter Most by 2030! Nikhil Kamath Breaks Down the Future of Work
Rise of AI, tech and gig economy to transform job landscape; traditional degrees may no longer be enough.
Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath has sounded the alarm over the future of employment as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the global workforce. Sharing insights from the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, Kamath warned that by 2030, millions of jobs will be displaced — but also highlighted where new opportunities will emerge.
Such an interesting question: "What jobs will be relevant in 10 years?"

Personally, I think the days of 4-year college courses are over, lifelong learning is the new norm, for everyone… pic.twitter.com/sk3m7vfjR4
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Kamath wrote,
“This is a very interesting question: What jobs will remain relevant after 10 years? Personally, I think the days of four-year college courses are over. Lifelong learning is the new norm for everyone…”
What the Data Shows
According to the data he shared, 170 million new jobs are expected to be created by 2030, primarily in agriculture, gig work, and technology, even as 92 million jobs are expected to be lost, resulting in a net 7% increase in employment globally.
Key sectors that will see the highest job creation:
- Agriculture: 34 million new jobs, largely driven by the green transition and sustainability efforts
- Technology & Big Data: Software developers, AI toolmakers, fintech experts
- Gig Economy: Delivery drivers, freelancers, on-demand services
In contrast, clerical, administrative, cashier, and secretarial roles are expected to decline sharply as automation and AI take over routine mechanical tasks.
A Radical Shift in Skill Demand
Kamath emphasized that to remain relevant, individuals must embrace continuous reskilling and adaptability. He noted that:
- 33% of jobs by 2030 will be technology-based (up from 22% today)
- 77% of employers plan to reskill existing employees to survive AI disruption
- 69% of companies will hire AI developers and toolmakers
- 41% may reduce headcount by eliminating weaker profiles
What This Means for You
Kamath’s message is clear: the future of work belongs to those who adapt quickly. With AI, robotics, and energy tech becoming integral to daily operations, traditional college degrees may no longer guarantee career stability.
“We need to unlearn the idea of education ending at graduation. Continuous, adaptive learning is the only path forward,” Kamath concluded.
As industries evolve at breakneck speed, his insights serve as a timely reminder for professionals and students alike: The jobs of the future demand skills of the future and those start now.
