For the last eight months, these centers have remained closed but their bills are mounting. The owners are paying up high rentals, providing salaries to the employees, electricity bills and other fixed overhead costs. But since there are no customers coming in the situation is tough for the owners to run the centers.
Sunil Mane, founder Catalyst Foundation and secretary, Bharatiya Janata party, Pune city recently met Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar and Pune district Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh and urged them to allow gyms to remain open. The meeting was attended by Maharashtra Gym Owners Association chairman and international champion Mahendra Chavan.

He added, “Pune city has several gyms, fitness centers, massagers, trainers, zumba teachers, housekeeping staff, dieticians, yoga teacher, nutritionist who have remained jobless for the last eight months. Also since gyms are closed there are several national as well as international level sports personalities who are awaiting to begin their regular practice.”
“Gyms will be definitely a place where contact tracing can happen. But government has allowed weddings and other functions where contact Tracing would be difficult but not gyms. People need to gain their immunity which will only happen when they start exercising,” Mane concluded.
