Anuja, the film that received an Oscar nomination, is set for a worldwide release on Netflix. The streaming platform announced this exciting update on Wednesday, January 29. Be sure to save the date: February 5.

Anuja has secured a nomination for the 97th Academy Awards in the category of Best Live Action Short Film.

“ANUJA is a story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. The Academy Award Nominated Live Action Short Film comes to Netflix on February 5,” Netflix’s Instagram post says.

The story revolves around two sisters, Anuja, aged 9, and Palak, aged 17, who are employed at a garment factory in Delhi. Their close relationship is tested when Anuja receives an opportunity to attend a prestigious boarding school. This pivotal choice weighs heavily on the young girl, as it carries significant implications for her family’s future.

Directed by Adam J Graves, the film Anuja stars Sajda Pathan in the title role and Ananya Shanbhag as Palak, with Nagesh Bhosle playing a significant part in the story.

The production of Anuja is a collaborative effort involving Mindy Kaling, Suchitra Mattai, Guneet Monga Kapoor, Devananda Graves, Krushan Naik, Ksheetij Saini, Alexandra Blaney, Michael Graves, and Aaron Kopp. Priyanka Chopra and Anita Bhatia take on the roles of executive producers.

Mindy Kaling shared her enthusiasm regarding the film’s debut on Netflix.
