Over 10,000 Consumer Complaints Filed Against Ola Electric; CCPA Issues Notice to Company
The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has reported a significant volume of consumer complaints against Ola Electric over the past year. Sources reveal that these complaints, which were escalated to the company’s higher management, were largely ignored, resulting in a lack of adequate redressal.
In response, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to the electric two-wheeler manufacturer after identifying over 10,000 complaints concerning product quality and after-sales service. The CCPA is reportedly initiating a class action against Ola Electric due to the substantial number of unresolved grievances.
According to sources, the consumer complaints cover a range of issues including charges during the warranty period, delays and unsatisfactory service, refusal or delays in warranty claims, recurrent defects, and overcharging. Additionally, consumers highlighted issues with inaccurate invoices, failure to provide refunds, unprofessional conduct, and multiple concerns with vehicle components such as the battery.
The CCPA’s notice, which was issued on October 7, accuses Ola Electric of violating consumer rights, providing deficient services, making misleading claims, and engaging in unfair trade practices. The company has been given 15 days to respond to the notice.
In a filing with stock exchanges, Ola Electric acknowledged receiving the show cause notice from the CCPA and stated it would respond within the stipulated timeframe.
The Department of Consumer Affairs, which oversees the NCH, has enhanced the platform to become a centralized point for consumer grievances. Accessible in 17 languages via multiple channels, including WhatsApp, SMS, and web portal, NCH provides consumers nationwide with an integrated grievance redressal system.
Ola Electric, currently selling three models of electric scooters, recently announced its entry into the electric motorcycle market.
Meanwhile, the company has been embroiled in a public spat on social media platform X between Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal and stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, who criticized the company’s after-sales service quality.
