Over ₹6.52 Crore Medical Aid Distributed To 5,000 Beneficiaries In Pune District
Pune, August 19, 2025: Patients from poor and weaker sections of society are receiving significant support through charitable hospitals. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and with the efforts of Rameshwar Naik, head of the State-Level Special Medical Assistance Cell, 5,112 patients from Pune district were provided medical aid worth ₹6,52,56,657 between January 1 and May 31, 2025.
Reserved Beds in Charitable Hospitals
As per Section 41 AA of the Maharashtra Public Trust Act, 1950, and the Bombay High Court order (Writ Petition No. 3132/2004), charitable hospitals are mandated to reserve 10 percent of their total beds free of cost for poor patients and another 10 percent at concessional rates for patients from weaker sections.
Role of the Special Medical Assistance Cell
To ensure transparent and prompt availability of reserved beds in charitable hospitals for poor and weaker patients, a State-Level Special Medical Assistance Cell has been set up at the Chief Minister’s Office, Mantralaya, Mumbai. This cell is headed by Rameshwar Naik.
The cell’s responsibilities include: ensuring immediate access to reserved beds for poor and weaker patients, providing real-time information on available beds, guiding patients about hospitals with facilities for specific treatments, giving details of concessions available under the scheme, and assisting patients through hospital coordinators. A dedicated online system has been developed for this process, while a state-level committee monitors to ensure that the beds truly reach the needy. With the help of this special cell, patients get real-time updates on bed availability, treatment facilities, and government concessions, leading to timely treatment and saving lives.

Under the Charitable Hospital Scheme, a total of 58 charitable hospitals in the district are extending benefits to poor and weaker patients. As these hospitals are charitable in nature, they receive multiple government concessions. Hence, it is their responsibility to provide reserved beds for the poor in a transparent manner and implement the scheme effectively. To avail of these concessions, patients must comply with the conditions and rules prescribed by the government.
