Instructions issued to water supply department for immediate corrective action to ensure clean and uninterrupted water supply to the city

Pimpri, April 23, 2025: Following multiple complaints from citizens about the supply of contaminated water from the Nighoje Barrage on the Indrayani River, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh visited the Chikhali Water Treatment Plant and Nighoje Barrage. During the inspection, he directed the water supply department officials to take necessary steps to ensure the city receives clean and safe drinking water.

Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, City Engineer of the Water Supply Department Ajay Suryawanshi, and other concerned officials and staff were also present during the visit.

Parts of Pimpri Chinchwad city receive water from the Andra Dam. The water is released into the Indrayani River, pumped from the Nighoje Barrage through two pumping stations, and processed at the Chikhali Water Treatment Plant before being distributed via pipelines. However, recent complaints about contaminated water being supplied to areas like Rajesh Sambhajinagar, Shahunagar, and Kudulwadi prompted urgent action by the municipal commissioner.

Commissioner Singh instructed that 5–6 aerators be installed on the pumps at the barrage to improve water quality, and that water hyacinths in the barrage be removed immediately. He also directed the irrigation department to expedite the completion of pending barrage-related works. Additionally, more aerators are to be installed at the Chikhali treatment plant, and water sample testing should be increased in areas receiving poor quality water.
