The metro work in Pune has halted to a certain extent mainly due to COVID19 as last year the Chaturshrungi flyover coming from Shivaji Nagar and going to adjoining routes to Baner, Aundh Pashan and Pune city was demolished by PMC for the construction of metro bridge. What remains to be seen is the similar development progressed by PCMC at a faster rate, but without demolishing any flyover.

PCMC has been able to build metro bridge passing beneath the Nashik Phata flyover which helps the corporation in decongesting traffic especially at Nashik phata.

The congestion at Chatturshrungi and SB road due to the absence of flyover is an eye opener and hence the PCMC engineer, Rajan Patil, has written to PMC and PMRDA chief to build two fly overs and one grade separator along with the necessary metro bridge, which will completely decongest the traffic, as suggested by PCMC official, Vijay Bhojane.

The highlights of the suggested development have been submitted by the PCMC official, Rajan Patil to PMRDA and PMC along with necessary maps and bkueprints, as mentioned below:

  1. Traffic coming from Pashan, Baner & Aundh can use one way flyover and travel towards Shivajinagar, Pune city. Flyover having width: 10 mtr. & Length:1850 mtr
  2. Similarly, traffic coming from Shivajinagar, Pune city can use one way flyover up to Pride House and then travel at grade towards Pashan, Baner & Aundh. Flyover having width: 10 mtr. & Length: 1450 mtr.
  3. Traffic coming from Senapati Bapat Road and travelling towards Shivajinagar will be using a dedicated grade separator provided to cross the junction. Grade Separator having width: 6 mtr. & Length: 325 mtr. Also adjoining service road on both side having width : 7 mtr & 9 mtr respectively.
  4. Traffic coming from Pashan, Baner & Aundh will travel at grade and take right turn to cross the junction (above covered Grade separator portion) and travel towards Senapati Bapat Road.
  5. Hinjewadi – Shivajinagar Metro route is proposed on 2nd Level. Portal system is adopted for the same.

While talking to Pune Pulse, PCMC official, Rajan Patil said, “We have written to PMC and PMRDA along with necessary maps and blueprints of the infrastructures. We are awaiting for them to respond. We are ready to help the PMC in this scenario.”

Rajan Patil has also suggested that through PPP platform, the PMC can build a flyover at Pune University junction. The earlier demolition of 750 crore budgeted flyover may not cause decongestion of traffic in the area.
