PCMC Grants ₹30,000 Subsidy to First 1,500 E-Rickshaw Owners to Promote Electric Vehicles
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a major initiative to reduce air pollution and encourage the use of electric vehicles. Under this program, a subsidy of ₹30,000 is being offered to 1,500 registered e-rickshaw owners in the PCMC region. The initiative was officially announced by Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh during a ceremony at the PCMC headquarters.
The subsidy program is aligned with the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 and aims to promote sustainable and clean energy solutions in urban transportation. The scheme applies to electric three-wheelers purchased after July 23, 2022, and prioritizes the first applicants on a “first-come, first-serve” basis. Additionally, owners converting conventional fuel-based vehicles to electric ones through retrofitting will also be eligible for the subsidy.
Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of adopting electric vehicles to achieve sustainable development goals, reduce resource consumption, and address climate change. Several beneficiaries, including Sudhir Chandekar and Sandeep Wagh, received symbolic cheques during the event.
This initiative marks a significant step by PCMC toward fostering an eco-friendly and sustainable urban environment.
