Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has been witnessing 1000 + positive cases each day, as experts are predicting that second wave will be more contagious and will spread at a faster rate than the initial wave. The last count of positive cases recorded on Monday crossed 1000 mark yet again, reaching the figure of 1187 positive cases with a total of 1,23,552 positive cases in Pimpri Chinchwad alone.

Amidst mirroring the deadly and fear stricken situation of March 2020 in March 2021, the government and the civic bodies are yet again tangled in a seemingly clueless state. The figures suggest that the graph of 2020 and 2021 are nearly on the same line, which the government is trying to tackle by re-operating the Jumbo COVID centers even when 90% of the patients are preferring home isolation.

While talking to mayor of the city, Usha Dhore, she said, “We are operating the Jumbo center at a minimum capacity of 200 patients, which has an ability of admitting 800 patients. The decision is taken after observing the sudden rise in the cases, possibly second wave. We are prepared to deal with the situation after witnessing and studying similar rise last year.”

According to the updates provided by the mayor, the Jumbo COVID center will be handed over to the same agency, MedBros, which is ready to re-start the operation at a shorter notice as the order should be out in a day.

Dr. Pavan Salve, additional health chief while talking to Pune Pulse suggested that the order will be out in a day and then the said agency will be given a green signal to start the operation.

The mayor has also confirmed that the civic body won’t rely much on the private hospitals to treat the patients, as there are enough government hospitals to take care of the crisis adding the Jumbo care, too, to the list.
