PCMC Recovers Rs 5 Crore In Water And Property Tax Arrears Through National Lok Adalat

Pimpri, September 20, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) successfully recovered over Rs 5 crore in pending water charges and property tax arrears during the recently held National Lok Adalat. The special drive was conducted under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority, State Legal Services Authority, and Pune District Legal Services Authority, with proceedings held at the Akurdi Civil and Criminal Court and PCMC’s divisional offices.

As part of this initiative, PCMC’s Property Tax Department issued online notices to defaulters, encouraging them to clear dues. A total of 3,424 cases were resolved during the Lok Adalat, resulting in a collection of Rs 5.14 cr. Property owners not only cleared arrears but also paid the current year’s tax. Those who made online payments received a 4% rebate on the general tax component.

Key Highlights of the Recovery:

Water Tax Collection: Rs 3.14 crore recovered from 2,481 water tax defaulters.

Property Tax Collection: Rs 2 crore recovered from 943 property tax defaulters.

Online Payments: 834 property owners availed the 4% rebate by paying online.

Convenience: Defaulters were allowed to pay dues either online or at their nearest zonal office.

“National Lok Adalat proved to be an effective platform for large-scale recovery of pending taxes. Initiatives like these are crucial for strengthening PCMC’s revenue base. Moving forward, we will intensify campaigns to reach every defaulter, and strict action, including property attachment, will be taken against those who fail to clear dues despite repeated opportunities,” said Pradip Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC.

“This drive was successful due to meticulous planning and coordination by our Water Tax and Property Tax Department staff. The Lok Adalat mechanism helped us achieve faster resolution of pending cases,” said Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC.
