Pimpri Chinchwad, September 6, 2025 — In an effort to boost revenue and crack down on unauthorised hoardings, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a process to regularise advertisements on public structures.

According to officials, the civic body has floated three separate tenders that will allow advertising on kiosks, signboards, underpasses, and flyovers. The initiative is expected to generate nearly ₹20 crore per year. The bidding will conclude on September 8, and the successful agencies will receive advertising rights for five years.

A recent survey identified 15,000 electric poles, 97 gantry signboards, and 80 underpasses and flyovers as potential sites for legal advertisements. Locations include the old Pune-Mumbai highway, Aundh-Ravet BRTS Road, and the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway. Gantry advertisements have also been planned along Chinchwad Chowk Service Road, Ambedkar Chowk Road, and several service roads.

Officials acknowledged that the absence of fresh tenders since November 2021 led to a rise in illegal structures. Currently, PCMC has around 1,500 authorised iron hoardings, while an AI-based survey is being conducted to identify illegal and oversized displays.

Earlier, the civic body permitted flex boards for up to seven days at 135 designated spots. However, this system was discontinued in December last year after repeated misuse, leaving advertisers to depend entirely on licensed hoardings.
