Edtech founder enters Hurun India Rich List 2025 with wealth of ₹14,510 crore; IPO filing under way
Alakh Pandey, co-founder of edtech firm Physics Wallah, has entered the Hurun India Rich List 2025 with a staggering net worth of ₹14,510 crore, marking a 223% rise over the past year. His wealth now surpasses that of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is valued at ₹12,490 crore.
According to Hurun, both Pandey and co-founder Prateek Maheshwari saw their fortunes soar 223% each, with Physics Wallah continuing its rapid expansion from its roots in Allahabad and Ajmer. This surge places Pandey among India’s fastest wealth creators in percentage terms, alongside leaders from sectors such as industrial products and jewellery.
Founded in 2016 as a YouTube channel catering to IIT aspirants, Physics Wallah has since evolved into one of India’s leading edtech companies. The firm is preparing to go public later this year, having filed its draft papers with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) through the confidential pre-filing route. Reports suggest SEBI has already given the nod, paving the way for a red herring prospectus (RHP) in the coming months.
Pandey’s meteoric rise underscores the growing influence of edtech entrepreneurs in India’s wealth landscape, despite the challenges faced by the sector in recent years.
