In a special meeting held today, Pune’s Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Shekhar Singh, was presented with the 2023-24 ‘Environmental Status Report’ for Pimpri-Chinchwad. The report assesses the impact of ongoing development projects and infrastructure on the city’s environment. The meeting, held at the late Mayor Madhukar Pawale Auditorium, was attended by various senior officials including Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, Chief Accountant Pramod Bhosale, and Health Officer Dr. Laxman Gofane. The report evaluates city services such as water supply, sanitation, public transport, and waste management, highlighting their effects on the environment and residents’ quality of life.
The report details environmental stressors like increased vehicular emissions and rising industrial activities. It also notes a rise in registered vehicles by 16% and improvements in green spaces with 190 gardens and over 3.2 million trees planted in 2022-23. The data underscores the need for continued efforts in sustainable urban planning and environmental conservation.
