Pimpri Chinchwad Police To Crack Down On Illegally Parked Vehicles
In a bid to decongest city roads, the Pimpri Chinchwad police have launched a drive to tow away vehicles parked in no-parking zones. The initiative, which began on Wednesday, aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion.
As part of the drive, 25 towing vans will be deployed across the city, with 8 already in operation. Vehicle owners found parking in no-parking zones will be fined Rs 500 and will also have to pay towing charges, ranging from Rs 236 for two-wheelers to Rs 472 for four-wheelers.
According to Bapu Bangar, Deputy Police Commissioner of Traffic Department, the towing vans will operate across the city police jurisdiction, and action will be taken against owners of vehicles parked in no-parking zones. Bangar also stated that citizens will have to pay previous pending dues, along with current fines, once their vehicles are towed.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate had been unable to tow vehicles until June this year, due to lack of permission from the state government. As a result, the police department had to rely on the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation for assistance. However, with the municipal corporation’s parking policy failing last year, the police have now taken matters into their own hands.
The police hope that this initiative will help to reduce congestion and streamline traffic flow in the city. With the towing vans already in operation, vehicle owners are advised to be cautious and avoid parking in no-parking zones to avoid fines and towing charges.
