The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has approved several initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and modernization, as announced by Commissioner Shekhar Singh during a special standing committee meeting held today.

Key among the approvals is the installation of electric crematoriums at Charholi and eco-friendly air pollution control systems at crematoriums in Bopkhel and within the Regional Office limits. These systems aim to minimize air pollution and discomfort caused by smoke for residents and visitors. Commissioner Singh emphasized the importance of transitioning to electric cremation to reduce deforestation and preserve the environment.

Additionally, the meeting approved the expansion of the Zero-Waste Project to 16 more municipal schools. Out of PCMC’s 105 schools, 56 have already implemented the initiative, which promotes waste-free operations. The project will now include schools from various regional zones, such as Vidyaniketan in Nigdi and Sant Tukaram Nagar Primary School.
