PM Narendra Modi Names 10 'Obesity Warriors' To Lead Fight Against Obesity
New Delhi, February 24, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a nationwide initiative to combat obesity, nominating 10 eminent personalities from politics, sports, business, and entertainment as “Obesity Warriors.” Announcing the campaign on his official X account, Modi aims to raise awareness about obesity and reduce excessive use of cooking oil in daily diets.
During his monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Modi highlighted the growing obesity crisis, stating, “One in eight people today is struggling with obesity. The number of obese individuals has nearly doubled in recent years, and childhood obesity is rising at an alarming rate.”
The 10 ‘Obesity Warriors’ nominated by PM Modi include:
- Anand Mahindra – Industrialist
- Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) – Bhojpuri Actor & Politician
- Manu Bhaker – Olympic Shooter
- Mirabai Chanu – Olympic Weightlifter
- Mohanlal – Actor & Film Producer
- Nandan Nilekani – Infosys Co-founder
- Omar Abdullah – Former J&K Chief Minister
- R. Madhavan – Actor
- Shreya Ghoshal – Singer
- Sudha Murthy – Rajya Sabha MP
Modi urged citizens to take simple steps, such as reducing cooking oil consumption by 10%, to tackle obesity and its related health risks, including heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory disorders.
Among those nominated, Omar Abdullah welcomed the initiative, saying, “Obesity leads to serious health issues, and I am happy to be part of this movement.”
This campaign underscores the government’s commitment to promoting a healthier India through public awareness and lifestyle changes.
