PMC extends property tax payment deadline

The Pune Municipal Corporation had announced a discount of 5-10 percent off on property tax to be paid before May 31.

Since the deadline ended yesterday, many property owners filed the property tax payment online which led to website shut down for a short period of time. The technical snag in the payment process kept many taxpayers away from paying it.

Seeing the rush to pay the taxes,the Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to extend the deadline till June 3, 2022.

The Citizens who pay property tax from June 1 to June 3 will be given a rebate of five to ten per cent. Meanwhile, in the two-month period from April 1 to May 31, Pune residents have set a new record by depositing Rs 939 crore in the municipal treasure. Last year, Rs 746 crore was collected in these two months.

Over 11 lakh owners from April 1 to May 31 more than 11 lakh property owners, 5.93 lakh citizens have paid tax in the span of two months this year. An amount of Rs 939 crore has been collected and around Rs 19.21 crore for concessions or have been waived off.

Large payments are made in the last week as the scheme concludes. This year, in the two days of May 30 and 31, Rs 132.67 crore has been paid. While filling up online in the last day, the website of the corporation hsaw heavy traffic. Citizens were outraged as they could not pay online from 10 am to 10.30 pm on May 31.

Speaking to Pune Pulse Ajit Deshmukh who is heading the Tax department of PMC stated, “The deadline has been increased till June 3. There is nothing to panic as we have deployed an additional team to handle such tasks.”
