Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced strict measures to address water spillage from tankers, a major cause of slippery roads and accidents in the city. Starting January 15, tankers without securely fitted lids or those with leaks will be barred from filling water at PMC-operated tanker filling stations.
The decision follows numerous complaints regarding water spilling from tankers, which creates hazardous conditions, especially for two-wheeler riders. The combination of spilled water and oil on roads has led to several accidents and injuries, prompting the PMC to take decisive action.
“Strict implementation will ensure safer roads and prevent accidents caused by negligence,” said Nandkishor Jagtap, head of PMC’s water supply department.
Despite repeated warnings, many tanker operators fail to install proper lids or repair leaky valves. To address this, PMC has granted a grace period until January 15 for all tanker operators to comply with the new guidelines.
Tankers must have securely fitted lids, and any vehicle found leaking water will not be serviced, even if payment (challan) has been made. PMC emphasized that these measures are essential to ensure public safety and reduce road hazards.
This initiative is expected to improve road conditions and minimize accidents caused by tanker-related negligence.
