Pune, February 27, 2025 – With increasing traffic congestion around Pune city causing difficulties for commuters, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken proactive steps to address the issue. Under the leadership of Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, a joint meeting of officials from various agencies was held on Thursday at the PMRDA office, where key decisions were made.

During the meeting, officials discussed traffic bottlenecks on national and state highways surrounding Pune. It was unanimously decided that, over the next 30 days, all unauthorized constructions, encroachments, shops, and temporary structures causing traffic congestion along these highways would be removed through a coordinated effort involving multiple departments.

A joint action plan has been formulated by PMRDA, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to ease congestion. Local businesses and residents have been urged to voluntarily remove unauthorized structures near highways. Going forward, anti-encroachment drives will be conducted twice a year to prevent further obstruction. Dr. Mhase has also urged builders to obtain proper permissions before constructing any structures.
