The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) road department has imposed a fine of ₹ 13.70 lakh on the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) for harming city roads during Metro construction on Ganeshkhind Road. In recent days, people have been slamming the PMC administration for the roads full of potholes. The PMC administration says that road damage is due to various projects like the Metro, drainage repairs, and sewer line works. To tackle this issue, PMC has cracked down on the contractor company accountable for the damage.

A resident expressed, “Because of the Metro work, it’s tough for us to walk on the sidewalks in the area. The crane operators have messed up the sidewalk, which was recently fixed by the PMC. Also, there are potholes along the road.”

Aniruddha Pawaskar, head, PMC Road Department responded, “A private company is managing the metro project under the PMRDA. Despite multiple directives, they neglected to take necessary precautions, resulting in the fine imposed on the PMRDA as the overseeing authority.”

A PMC official mentioned, “PMC recently expanded Ganeshkhind Road for the Pune Metro line-3 (Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar) multilayer flyover project. During the flyover construction, the contractors damaged the newly constructed sidewalk, road, and some residents’ compounds while moving cranes.”

He added, “We fined and notified PMRDA on Friday since private contractors are operating under their authority.” Despite several attempts, PMRDA officials were unavailable for comment on the matter.
