Unseasonal pre-monsoon rains have caused significant damage to onion, tomato, and fruit crops across Maharashtra, particularly in key producing regions like Nashik. The losses are likely to trigger a sharp rise in the prices of essential vegetables in the coming days.
While prices of staples such as onions, tomatoes, and leafy greens are soaring in retail markets, fruit prices are dropping due to a sudden oversupply and reduced demand.

- Price surge: Vegetables up 60–70% and Fruits and vegetables overall up 25–30%
The onion-producing regions, especially in Nashik, have been hit hard. Prices will increase gradually. Meanwhile, fruit traders have also reported massive losses. The market is already declining for mangoes and the end of the season has taken a hit.
Fruit vendors have cited widespread damage to banana, papaya, guava, and litchi crops in Solapur, Ahilyanagar, and other areas.
