Pune: 11-Month-Old Baby Dies Amid Couple’s Fight; Police Suspect Foul Play
Pune, July 11, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded in Kedgaon, Daund taluka, Pune district, where an 11-month-old baby lost his life during a heated argument between his parents. The deceased infant has been identified as Avdhoot Mengawade. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving residents deeply saddened.
According to initial reports, the mother allegedly struck her husband with a trident (trishul) during the altercation. However, the weapon accidentally hit the baby, who was nearby, resulting in his death. The Yavat Police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the couple and arrested them.
Details of the Incident
Police said Sachin Mengawade and his wife Pallavi, residents of Kedgaon, got into an argument over a trivial issue. In a fit of anger, Pallavi reportedly swung a trident at her husband. Unfortunately, the weapon struck the 11-month-old child, who was in the arms of a relative, piercing his head. The infant was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries before treatment could be administered.
Yavat Police Inspector Narayan Deshmukh and his team reached the scene and took Pallavi and Sachin into custody.

Police have raised suspicions that the incident may have links to superstitious practices. Investigators revealed that the accused allegedly attempted to wipe away blood stains and clean the trident to destroy evidence. A probe is underway to ascertain if the death was truly accidental or if deeper motives were involved.
