The Uttamnagar police have apprehended a 24-year-old man from Warje in connection with the kidnapping and rape of an 11-year-old girl from his neighborhood. Alongside him, his friend was also arrested, as well as the owner and manager of a hotel near Khadakwasla Dam, facing charges of abetting the crime and providing a room without proper verification.
Authorities revealed that the young survivor comes from a family of casual workers, while the accused individuals are both daily wage workers.
Inspector Nilesh Badakh from the Warje police shared with TOI, “On Friday morning, the girl’s parents and older brother left for work, leaving her and her sister at home. Later that afternoon, the neighbor called the girl outside and asked her to join him on a motorcycle ride with his friend for an outing.”
The young girl, unaware of the danger ahead, accepted a ride on a motorcycle from a neighbor. This seemingly harmless act led her to a hotel, where she was tragically assaulted.
Her parents, upon returning home from work and finding their daughter missing, immediately launched a search. When their efforts proved futile, they turned to the police for help. Through tracking the suspect’s phone, the police located him at the hotel and rescued the girl from the room.
“We examined the hotel’s records and found that the manager had given a room to the suspects without verifying their details,” said Badakh. “The hotel manager and owner ignored the rules of keeping a register and checking guests’ ID cards. They allowed the suspect to rent the room without confirming his relationship with the girl or her age.” When questioned, the suspect told the police he intended to take the girl to his home in Uttar Pradesh from the hotel.
