In a bid to conserve the environment and restore biodiversity, the Shivneri Brigade, in collaboration with the Tree Public Foundation and Cummins India Foundation, has launched a large-scale plantation drive in Aundh, Pune. The initiative, part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, aims to plant 10,000 new tree saplings and create a biodiversity lake spread across 2 acres.

The joint effort, which marks 12 years of collaboration between the three organizations, focuses on creating a native and scientifically balanced forest around Pune city. According to Commander 330 Infantry Brigade, the initiative has been engaged in these green initiatives for the last 12 years, creating a native and scientifically balanced forest around Pune city.

Abhishek Kawitkar, President of Tree Public Foundation, stated that this special initiative makes a holistic inclusion of soil study, baseline study, native bird inviting trees, bird bees, and insect senses, and a water body spread across 2 acres scientifically designed on the principal of ornithology for bird nesting and roosting, serving as a biodiversity lake park and a green Pune initiative.

The project has already shown significant results, with around 156 bird species, 24 butterfly species, and thousands of vertebrate and invertebrate species residing in this scientific biosphere. The initiative aims to increase green cover, reduce carbon levels, increase oxygen levels, reduce temperature levels, retain groundwater table, and maintain biodiversity balance.

The collaboration between the three organizations has been instrumental in the project’s success, with the Indian Army providing land for creating oxygen hubs within city limits. Tree Public Foundation has been working with the Indian Army for the past 12 years and has been planting trees scientifically for the last 17 years. The foundation’s efforts have resulted in the creation of a sustainable ecosystem, with a focus on conservation and restoration of biodiversity.

The project’s key figures include 10,000 tree saplings planted, 2-acre biodiversity lake created, 156 bird species recorded, 24 butterfly species recorded, thousands of vertebrate and invertebrate species residing in the biosphere, 12 years of collaboration between Shivneri Brigade, Tree Public Foundation, and Cummins India Foundation, and 17 years of scientific tree planting by Tree Public Foundation.

“Planting 2-300 trees will not make that much impact, and hence Tree Public Foundation has been planting trees scientifically since the last 17 years with the joint initiative of the Indian Army. Our initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, is a testament to our commitment to making a significant impact on the environment. We are not just planting trees, but creating a sustainable ecosystem that will benefit generations to come,” he added.
