Pimpri Chinchwad: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old employee of a private company in Hinjewadi died by suicide after jumping from the sixth floor of his office building on the night of February 12.
The youth, identified as Tejas Bajirao Sonagare, a resident of Dehugaon, posted a video on Instagram moments before the incident, holding two of his cousins responsible for his death.
Following a detailed investigation, the Pimpri Chinchwad police arrested the two cousins, both residents of Talawade, on charges under sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. A local court has remanded them to police custody till Monday.
As per police reports, Tejas was working as an office boy at a corporate firm in Hinjewadi Phase 2. He had lost both his parents and was living independently. In the Instagram video shared before his death, Tejas alleged that his cousins repeatedly harassed him over his salary and savings, causing him emotional distress. He had urged his friends to share the video widely.
Police Sub-Inspector Dnyaneshwar Zol, the investigating officer, stated, “The cousins were constantly questioning Tejas about his finances, which reportedly affected him deeply. Based on his final video statement and subsequent probe, we arrested both accused. One of them is a welder, and the other runs a safety equipment shop.”
Initially, an accidental death report was registered at Hinjewadi police station. However, as the investigation progressed and evidence pointed to sustained harassment, a formal FIR was lodged against the two relatives.
