Pune, October 16, 2025: Residents of Elementa Phase 1 Society in Tathawade faced a severe 16-hour power outage on Wednesday, leaving over 900 flats across 16 floors without electricity. The outage began early in the morning at 6 am, power was restored briefly around 3 pm, only to go off again at 5 pm. Electricity was finally restored at around 12.30 am the following day.

Pravind Farad, Secretary of Elementa Phase 1, expressed frustration over the prolonged disruption, stating that no officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) visited the area or issued any communication to residents throughout the ordeal. “We were left completely in the dark—literally and figuratively. No one from MSEDCL informed us about the cause of the outage or the expected restoration time,” he said.

The society in these 16 hours spent atleast more than 1.25 lakh on diesel to keep the emergency services functional. Farad said who will bear the cost of this expense which was mainly due to MSEDCL. We are definitely liable for compensation.

The prolonged power failure caused major inconvenience for hundreds of families. Many residents, including senior citizens, young children, and patients who rely on medical equipment, were severely affected. Those working from home also faced work disruptions due to the unannounced cuts.

Sachin Londhe, a resident of a housing society in Wakad, and also Founder of Wakad Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation, voiced his concern and urged that MSEDCL should be held accountable for the hardships caused to citizens. “This isn’t a minor inconvenience—people suffered for hours without any assistance. There needs to be a system where MSEDCL is made answerable for such failures,” Londhe told Pune Pulse.

Residents have demanded that MSEDCL improve its communication channels and provide timely updates during power failures. They have also urged authorities to conduct an inquiry into the cause of the outage and ensure such incidents are not repeated.

When contacted MSEDCL officials they informed that the fault was major which took a little more time to resolve.
