Pune ACB Nabs Two BJ Medical College Officials for ₹1 Lakh Bribery
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Pune arrested two officials from BJ Government Medical College on Wednesday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Jayant Chaudhari (49), a senior assistant, and Suresh Bonwale (53), an office superintendent at the institution.
According to the ACB, the case was reported on April 1 by a 32-year-old contractor who had completed furniture work worth ₹20 lakh for the college in 2023.
To process an initial payment of ₹10 lakh, the officials allegedly demanded a 13% commission, totaling ₹1.3 lakh. After negotiations, the bribe was settled at ₹1 lakh.
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed while accepting the bribe. A case has been registered at Bund Garden police station under Sections 7 and 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Authorities have initiated further investigations into the matter.
