Pune, August 25, 2025: Pune Airport is set for a major infrastructure boost as authorities prepare to expand facilities with the addition of five new aircraft parking bays, a remote bay, and a dedicated cargo terminal. The development will be carried out on a 13-acre land parcel, expected to be handed over to the airport administration by October-end, at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore.
Currently, the airport operates with 10 parking bays managing nearly 200 flight movements daily. The upcoming expansion is expected to increase capacity by 50–60 additional flights per day, easing congestion and improving operational efficiency.
Passenger numbers at Pune Airport have surged, with over 10 million travelers using the facility in the past year. With 15 new flight slots set to be operational in the winter schedule, daily flight movements are projected to rise from 200 to around 225. Once the new bays are completed, the airport will be able to accommodate more flights and open additional routes to meet the city’s growing demand.
Parking bays are critical for smooth airport operations. More bays allow multiple aircraft to be managed simultaneously, reducing delays and ensuring timely arrivals and departures while improving safety.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol confirmed the timeline, stating, “By the end of October, the airport will receive the land parcel for expansion. The new facilities will significantly enhance Pune Airport’s capacity and provide passengers with better connectivity.”
In addition to the new bays, efforts are underway to extend the runway to handle increasing operations and accommodate larger aircraft in the future.
