Pune Airport is set to introduce an affordable ‘Udan Yatra Cafe’ near the departure gate of its new terminal, inspired by the one at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.
As per a report by Sakal, the cafe, expected to open by the end of February, will offer budget-friendly options like water bottles for ₹10, tea for ₹10, coffee for ₹20, and samosas for ₹20.
This initiative aims to make air travel more accessible for common passengers, aligning with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s ‘Udan’ scheme. While the scheme has received a positive response, the high prices of food and beverages at airports have been a concern for budget travelers. The new cafe addresses this issue, ensuring affordable options for all.
Currently, Pune Airport’s new terminal has 15 food stalls, where a bottle of water costs ₹70, tea ₹200, and coffee ₹250. These prices are often out of reach for many passengers. The ‘Udan Yatra Cafe’ will provide relief, offering essential items at reasonable rates.
Pune Airport handles around 160 flights daily, serving 25,000 to 27,000 passengers. The introduction of the cafe is expected to enhance the travel experience for budget-conscious flyers.
Passengers have long demanded affordable food options at airports, and the ‘Udan Yatra Cafe’ fulfills this need.
The move has been widely appreciated, as it ensures that even common travelers can enjoy basic amenities without straining their wallets.
