Pune: Ajit Pawar Demands Immediate and Future-Focused Action On Hinjawadi Traffic, Water, And Pollution Issues
Pimpri | July 26, 2025 – In a high-level review meeting held at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi, Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar instructed government agencies to focus on long-term infrastructure planning to tackle future urban challenges. He emphasized that key roads connecting Hinjewadi, the PMR region, and the city must be repaired and widened wherever necessary to relieve traffic congestion and meet the growing needs of the population.
Pawar issued urgent directives to ensure coordinated efforts across agencies, asking them to immediately implement road repairs and widening to address citizens’ basic needs. The meeting followed his inspection of traffic bottlenecks in the Hinjewadi area earlier that morning.
Present at the meeting were Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode, MLA Shankar Mandekar, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Collector Jitendra Dudi, and other senior officials from NHAI, MIDC, PWD, and MPCB.
Ajit Pawar directed that metro construction be expedited and all development works be done in consultation with local representatives and residents. He stressed the need to build long-term infrastructure considering Pune’s rising population and transport demands. He asked that urgent steps be taken to restore damaged roads and widen them as needed. He also appreciated PMRDA’s actions to remove encroachments, which are easing congestion in the Hinjewadi area, and instructed all other departments to take a firm stance against illegal encroachments to improve traffic flow.
Focus on Water Shortage and Pollution
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase presented a master plan analyzing water reservation, expected future shortages, and pollution concerns in the Hinjewadi IT Park and surrounding areas. The 30-year forecast for infrastructure demand, Indrayani and Pavana river pollution control projects, and sewage treatment plans in urban village zones were also discussed.
Key Road Widening Projects Underway
To ease traffic in the Hinjewadi region, PMRDA has started land acquisition for major road widening projects. These include stretches from Mercedes Showroom to Mahalunge (MIDC Circle), Surya Hospital to Sakhare Vasti, and other links connecting Wakad, Marunji, Maan, and Nande.

Inspection of Ongoing Works
Before the meeting, Pawar reviewed various development projects and traffic solutions, including Pune Metro Line 3 stations, the Mezzanine-Laxmi Chowk-Shinde Vasti stretch, Marunji Road, Wipro Circle (Phase 2), and areas between Hinjawadi Phase 3 and Pandavnagar. He also gathered updates on all measures underway to reduce congestion in these zones.
